Food Delivery Banned

On March 10, Mr. John Gabriel, Independence High School principal, announced that starting March 14, DoorDash and other food services will no longer be allowed to deliver to Independence High School.

This decision came from Loudoun County Public Schools (LCPS), who cited safety concerns as the reason for the county wide ban. Some students don’t care about the ban, while others disagree with it completely.

One student who agrees with the ban is sophomore Gabbi Pritchett who says, “I think that the ban will be good in the long run. We are finally getting back to normal stuff, so staying safe is probably better.” Pritchett also went on to say how it could have students save more money for things they will need more in the future.

Others disagree with Pritchett’s stance. Freshman Drew D’Amico has ordered from UberEats and DoorDash a number of times and strongly disagrees with the ban. D’Amico commented that “We should be able to do whatever we want to with our money. Sometimes I want to have something other than the cafeteria food, but now I don’t have that option anymore. It’s not fair.” D’Amico ordered food on the last day of deliveries, Friday March 11, as a final farewell to deliveries.

Those who don’t care much about the ban include sophomore Bella Purucker. She said “I’ve never ordered anything during the school day or had the desire to, so I don’t really care too much about it.” She went on to say how she hopes they bring it back next year though so that she and other students have the option to order food if they want or need to.

Depending on how the rest of the school year goes, maybe LCPS will be willing to allow food services to come back to schools in the future.
