Girl’s Soccer Claims Wins Over Lightridge on Opening Night
On Tuesday, Aug 27 at Independence High School, the girls’ junior varsity (JV) and varsity soccer teams hosted Lightridge High School for their first games of the season. The girls’ JV team walked away with a 4-1 win and varsity claimed a 3-1 victory with both teams cementing their first wins in the books.
JV saw goals from Georgia Carlson, a freshman, who sported an impressive hat trick with three goals. Riley Wise, a sophomore, scored one goal. Goalie Maggie Conroy, a freshman, also made 20 saves during the game.
Varsity saw the talents of senior Cameron Shackford who scored two goals for the Tigers with assists from Kaitlyn Nimmer, a sophomore, and Anne Zerkle, a senior. Sophomore Eva Anderson also scored a goal on a loose ball. Goalie Reiley Fitzpatrick, a junior, made 11 saves against the Bolts.
Boys soccer also played on Tuesday and both JV and varsity won their games against Lightridge 5-0.
After soccer’s performance on Tuesday, Independence has gathered 18 first game wins for its 2020-21 athletic school year.
