Hannah Montana Forever album review

Hannah+Montana+Forever+album+review

Like many of my peers, Hannah Montana was a childhood staple. The popular television series featured Miley Cyrus as both Miley Stewart, a normal teenage girl, and Hannah Montana, her popstar alter-ego, as she navigated growing up and being famous. She will henceforth be referred to as Cyrus.

Each season of “Hannah Montana” was paired with subsequent albums that featured the songs from Cyrus’s character Montana’s performances. The album being reviewed today is the “Hannah Montana Forever” album, which was the soundtrack for the final season of the “Hannah Montana” television series. “Hannah Montana Forever” was released on Oct. 15, 2010 through the Walt Disney label.

One song to note is “Love That Lets Go” featuring her on and offscreen father Robby Stewart, played by Billy Ray Cyrus. It is a song about the delicate relationship between a father and daughter as the latter begins to grow up. During the chorus they both sing, “It’s time to move on; Even though I’m not ready. I’ve got to be strong, And trust where you’re heading. Even though It’s not easy (not easy), Right now the right kind of love…Is the love that let’s go, go.” This song is one of my personal favorites on the album because it is more than a song between characters. It is clear the song is also about Cyrus’s real-life relationship with her father as their shared project, the show, begins to wrap up.

“Been Here All Along” is paired with an episode where Miley cancels a planned father-daughter afternoon to go on a date with her love interest Jesse, played by Drew Roy. After realizing she should have rescheduled her date, Cyrus as Stewart hosts a concert in honor of the sacrifices military families make by not being able to see their loved ones. Her feeling of longing to stay connected to those she loves is evident in the song as she sings, “You’re still there for me, wherever there might be. And if an ocean lies between us. I’ll send a message across the sea. That you can sleep tonight, knowing it’s alright.”

Below are some rapid-fire songs of note:

“I’m Still Good” is the perfect feel good song featured on this album.  The song talks about coming back from mistakes and learning that she is “still good.”

“Ordinary Girl” discusses Cyrus’s character’s struggle with maintaining her public persona while enjoying time to be a normal teenage girl. This song notably parallels some of the struggles Cyrus had while growing up in the spotlight.

“Gonna Get This” featuring Iyaz is one of the less known songs on the album, but nevertheless a fun collaboration.

“I’ll Always Remember You” is the wonderful wrap-up song for the series. The track features the lyrics,  “Yesterday’s gone. We gotta keep moving on. I’m so thankful for the moments,” which perfectly describe Cyrus’s emotion about ending her successful television series.

Overall, the album was the perfect way to end the immensely popular series. Admittedly, there are a couple of songs on the album that are complete misses such as “Que Sera” and “Barefoot Cinderella,” but it doesn’t take away the nostalgia that surrounds the good songs and the place they have in fans’ hearts.
