Independence freshman football team season overview

The freshman football team looks to finish the season with a record, currently 4-3 with two games left in the season. They lost their season opener against Riverside, but that wasn’t going to stop them. They came back with three big wins over Briar Woods, Dominion and Potomac Falls. They split their next two games losing to Sherando, and then they beat Briar Woods. They were 4-2 on the season going into the game on Oct. 17, when they played Loudoun County. They played a low scoring game that was close throughout the entire game but fell just short of a win.

One of the players on the freshmen football team is Jacob Oh. Oh plays right guard for the team, and he says that he likes playing for the team because “there is a great community.”

Another player on the team is Gordon Mansfield, who plays center. He says that his favorite moment of the season is when the team gets a win. Mansfield says that his favorite thing about playing for the Tigers is teamwork. “Teamwork is very important in football,” said Mansfield.

To finish off the season, their final two games will take place Oct. 25 at Woodgrove High School and Nov. 1 at Stone Bridge High School.
