As time goes on, going to the traditional four-year college is not the only option for students to choose from post-graduation. One of those options is going to the military. The military has many different options for post-grads to choose from with there now being six branches. The military also allows students to receive more education for free or for a reduced cost.
Senior Carlos Godoy-Blanco, wants to join the US Marine Corps after graduating.
“They have tons of jobs, and what I want to be is a Helicopter Mechanic, and they have set me up perfectly for that.”
Blanco explained how they have set him up for the career he’s interested in.
“Basically they gave me a test to take, and I passed the test, by a lot, so I just got the job automatically”
The military helps students feel accomplished as they are in a field where they are helping the country.
Another student, Gabriel Santiago (12), also wants to join the US Marine Corps. Santiago talked about his inspiration in joining the military.
“Pretty much everyone around me is doing the same thing, and I feel like I want to do better than them, so I just like to be one step ahead of them.”
High schoolers like Santiago or Blanco wish to join the military to set themselves up for success in their future careers. On the other hand, some students just like the idea of the military and would like to join. Steven Suarez, also a senior, who wants to join the US Air Force, has this to say about the military: “It is inexpensive, and interesting”
