2024 Indy Film Festival: “Obsession”

The 3rd annual Indy Film Festival stunned audiences with diverse short films this quarter. “Obsession,” one of the films shown, provided a mysterious element to the festival and captivated the student audiences. Written, Directed, and Acted by Divya Mukhara, Shannon Edwards, and Addi Otezya.

At first, the film follows the ordinary life of an unnamed protagonist as she fulfills her daily tasks. However, on a rainy night, while walking her dog, she catches sight of two suspicious, trenchcoat-wearing women in her neighborhood. As these strange encounters become more frequent, the protagonist does some investigating. The protagonist spirals as she attempts to uncover the meaning behind the sightings. One night, she hazily recalls, the two women entered her home, their motives unclear. The next morning, the once obsessive girl awoke, free from the curiosity about the two women, finally returning to peace.

The protagonist’s development throughout the film fascinated its audiences, contributing to the overall approval of this year’s festival.

She is an avid horror movie watcher with an opinion on every Scream film, but could never be caught watching an action movie. In her free time, she also enjoys drawing, preferably with oil pastels or charcoal. In the future, Carly aspires to develop a career in law. This year, Carly is interested in writing articles that cover school events such as pep rallies and theater productions. She believes that the most important characteristics of a good journalist are honesty and sensitivity, and cannot wait to apply those qualities this year for the Prowl!
Naomi George
Naomi George, Junior Staff Writer
My name is Naomi George and I am a sophomore at Independence High School. I was born and raised in Virginia and this is my first year in journalism. I've been interested in journalism since I was a kid and I wanted to take the opportunity to be in a journalism class this year. My goal for this class is to write a piece that I’m passionate about and something my audience would enjoy reading. In my free time I like to read romance books, swim, bike, and I’ve done competitive rowing for a year now. I’d like for my rowing team to make it to states for a regatta which is a race. I am looking forward to writing about individual people on how they live their lives or student profiles. After high school I want to major in criminal law but I’m unsure of where I want to go. I’d love to study abroad in England, but specifically London. Most importantly, I am a dog person and I currently have a dog named Scotch.
