Hippo Campus’s LP3

Landmark was the result of angsty teens striving to make their friends dance, and then the group felt they had something to prove with the twisted introspection of Bambi. Aptly titled LP3 – no, seriously – their third full-length release finally evidences a state of self-acceptance for the five-piece.

Hippo Campus released their third studio album, “LP3,” on February 4, 2022. Loaded with 10 tracks, this album is great for any Wallows and COIN fans. Hippo Campus specialized in an indie pop sound with fun lyrical hooks with their “Landmark” LP, and with “LP3,” they’re back at it.

Hippo Campus viewed this third studio album as an effort to come back to their roots following a similar studio process as their first acclaimed LP, “Landmark.”

In an article by American Songwriter they explained that “coming off the heels of Bambi in 2018, which [Hippo Campus] said did not feel as much of a ‘group effort.’ They hoped to become one again in the creative process. ‘I remember our number one priority was just to write good songs and learn how to be a band again,’ says Luppen (the lead vocalist for Hippo Campus).”

At the heart of this album, “LP3” is a way for the band to come together and just make music together. The rejection of genre and advocating for their own personal experiences is what makes this album what it is.

While it is no “Landmark,” it is a sure return of Hippo Campus’s passion for music. And with this adjusted attitude for their craft, the future for Hippo Campus is looking bright.
