Olivia Durso- Tigers Taking the Next Step: athletes commit to college

Olivia Durso is a senior co-captain of the Independence varsity girls lacrosse team. Her passion and commitment to the sport of lacrosse have earned her a spot playing at the next level. Next year, she will continue her academic career and play Division III lacrosse at Marymount University.

A. Olivia Durso

Q. What Grade are you in?

A. 12th Grade

Q. Where did you commit for college?

A. Marymount University

Q. How long have you been playing your sport for?

A. Seven years

Q. What has your athletic career looked like? 

A. I played rec league lacrosse for Dulles South for four years, travel lacrosse for Cavalier Lacrosse for three years and varsity girls lacrosse for four years at Rock Ridge and Independence. I also played field hockey for two years in high school.

Q. When did you decide that committing for a sport was something you wanted to do?

A. I decided junior year when I realized that my senior year would be my last year ever playing. I was also really upset because I missed my whole freshman year due to an injury and then I missed my whole sophomore year due to COVID-19.

Q. Do you have a favorite memory from this sport?

A. My favorite memory was when my team won a really big game, and we went out to eat after and were so cramped at one table. We had so much food and sat and talked for hours.

Q. What are you most looking forward to in college (sports or academics)?

A. I’m looking forward to being able to do new things and experience what lacrosse is going to look like in college.
