Indy Serves, a service organization at Independence, looks to expand their community outreach this school year as the club nears 130 members. The number of new members came as a welcome surprise to both club Co-President Eve Cascadden,11, and club sponsor Dr. VonEnde Coleman, which was made apparent by the first meeting location.

The first Indy Serves meeting of the school year was held in a classroom, which quickly exceeded capacity with some members having to stand outside in the hallway. This prompted club leadership to discuss a new location for future meetings.

The size of Indy Serves leaves Coleman very excited for the impact the club can have on the community. “You can have one group working on [a] clothes drive for the Afghan refugees while another group is starting to put in place our [Thanksgiving Drive] for our families at Independence. Another group can be working on a project for the women that are in the domestic [violence] shelter,” she explained.

Cascadden shares the same excitement for the new school year. “My hope for the future is to get as involved in the community as we can, and I just want to help the people around us the best we can.“
